We are conveniently located at the Link Road Medical Centre in Ballincollig, on the western outskirts of Cork City. This is where we carry out initial medical examinations. All of our other services are provided remotely over Zoom.

This diagnosis has literally been life-changing for me. For many years, I identified with the symptoms of ADHD. However, I used to gaslight myself into thinking that actually it was all in my head and I just was not competent at life. I did this for six years before finally biting the bullet and booking my assessment with Dr Maria Horgan at ADHDClinicians.ie. I was hesitant because of the cost also but now I am very grateful that I put myself and my wellbeing first and got diagnosed. From going through the assessment, I now believe that if someone believes they have ADHD and that it affects their life dramatically, well then you probably do. Neurotypical minds do not experience life like we do, so do not doubt yourself and go for the assessment.

For me the diagnosis has been life-changing. I now understand myself better and have more compassion for myself in areas of my life where I used to continuously beat myself up. I chose to medicate and it has been revolutionary to my whole life. I am still learning about ADHD and putting systems in place to support me but I have found the medication has given me the opportunity to do this. I must say Dr Maria Horgan was very patient and understanding. She is hugely empathetic and takes time in answering all questions. I felt supported through the process, which is very important.

The difference having been diagnosed with combined ADHD at the age of 38 has made to me is profound. I’ve spent my whole entire life feeling like I’ve been on the side line looking in at what should have or could have been if I was “normal “, the fact that so much torment and distress was so overwhelming and internalised for so long all became too much to cope with.

I knew I was depressed at the time of my initial assessment with ADHD Clinicians but more than anything I knew being heard for the first time was my first glimpse of hope. I was adamant I didn’t want to go down the antidepressant route because my depression had an underlying cause, untreated ADHD and now I had a voice and hope. Starting Conserta was euphoric , it was like a road block had shifted for the first time. The noise in my head mellowed . The feeling of unexplained dread lifted and being able to perform the normal tasks of day to day life became manageable again. The fear of waking up at night has definitely been helped with melatonin. Being able to fall back asleep without relentless mind racing has changed my ability to function massively.

This diagnosis has given me my life back and for the first time an acceptance of myself. Above all I feel like this has helped my family immensely.
